The X-Men film franchise may have a hard time topping the time-travelling, franchise crossover event that was X-Men: Days of Future Past, but writer/producer Simon Kinberg says the next film in the series, X-Men: Apocalypse, has some new tricks up its sleeve.
Speaking to Empire Magazine, Kinberg explained that Apocalypse differentiates itself largely through the epic power of its titular villain, the ancient En Sabah Nur.
“This one does some things that the franchise hasn’t really done on film,” Kinberg says. “You have a character called Apocalypse, who wants to do a different kind of damage than X-Men movie ever has. It’s the first time we’ve had a villain in an X-Men movie who could compete in terms of physical power and presence with Magneto. It’s an interesting dynamic to create.” Not that Magneto won’t have a role to play. In fact, he’ll be one of Apocalypse’s four Horsemen. Considering the amount of destruction we’ve already seen Magneto to be capable of without Apocalypse’s help, we can only imagine what he’ll be capable of with his new boss’s enhancements.
